I went to the cinema and saw the Joker by Todd Phillips. I didn’t know much about the film and the characters. I have seen the previous Heath Lazer and the old version of Jack Nicholson. Quantum is very different, but I have not seen comic books or any films before the director. I’m basically an empty piece of paper. Movies can be written on it. I urge you to look as close to the state as possible.
This is because the film has multiple interpretations, multiple endings, and even the whole plot has multiple meanings. The clown is not sure. The lower the expectation of the film, the more details can be captured when watching the film.
Within 48 hours after the first viewing, we sorted all the scenes and put forward appropriate suggestions.
Let me briefly talk about the technical aspects of film. The film shooting is amazing and rich in content. Perfect wallpaper; the photos and the rough description of Gotham City were inspired by New York in the 1970s. Joaquin Phoenix’s performance deserves a vote. He is responsible for the movie from the beginning to the last second. His masterful and persuasive performance of the characters enabled him to overcome slow moments(some). Think of this film as a psychodrama about clowns, not as slow as some audiences lament.
Apart from these, talk about what this film means to me.
The Joker’s Plot: Clockwork Orange of Our Times
The plot itself is simple. It’s even simple. The clown Arthur Fleck is a middle-aged man. He has been trying to become a comedian, but he has failed all the time. He is becoming more and more paranoid about his ability to make himself laugh. After a series of events, he became more delusional, more painful, and gradually degenerated. With the development of evil movies, in the end, he perfectly embodied the role of clown. He is a psychopath who kills with a mad smile.
It sounds very simple. There is no possible explanation. The wrong one is far from it. Although the leading men in Clockwork Orange are angry with the middle class for their fun, experience and happiness, they do not need to be criminals. They chose not to be forced to do so by society. On the contrary, they just don’t want to go the way their parents like and go astray.
The clown is poor. He has the lowest quality of life and is almost homeless. He wanted to be a member of London society in the 1960s, behave appropriately and spread laughter around with his jokes. Clowns want to be ordinary people, but they hate clockwork orange guys.
On the contrary, the similarity between the two films is the violent criticism of the society at that time. On the one hand, he condemned the stereotyped education of the British people, on the other hand, he condemned the selfishness, narcissism and meanness of the whole society. Also in Kubrick’s films, society is a little bit; good;, Note that the clown is; bad;, Collapse, everyone is fighting for themselves. Clowns are not criminals, but victims of clockwork oranges. But this film makes people believe that how he finally became a member of these groups and the arc of noble roles.
Anyone who is worried that this film will spread violence cannot be afraid of it. Because young men have reason to hate the world. The clown is not a respectable character, but a sympathetic character. He was immersed in his own stupid darkness all the time, and could not get love and respect, or even partial defense at the end of the film. He would laugh at the revulsion therapy of clockwork oranges.
The craziest clown?
In fact, he was crazy from the beginning. Just different from the last madness. I said it here; crazy” The broadest interpretation of this word is that it can be described anywhere, including shyness, delusion and insanity. You can play any part of the clown in this movie. You will have many signs to prove or deny your opinion. Character cannot be defined. That is the core of his charm.
Of course, Ledger’s works have more nihilism and criminal tradition, but Phoenix’s colorful interpretation of clowns is the most crazy. He remembered Sid Barrett’s schizophrenia in the early pink Freudian period. Although there are great differences
Sydney is very talented and has developed his talents with the help of his friends, but he is unwilling/unable. The clown here has no talent. Even though he believes that he can succeed, he also wants to do more work in solo comedy art, but people around him do not want to help him or trust him. Sydney’s madness is deep inside. It has nothing to do with the way the world treats him. The clown’s craziness is also because the society cannot help and understand him. Arthur Fleck has no pink Freud to support him, only clowns who quit midway. Most of them looked down upon him. The psychiatrist did not give much help. His mother was old and weak, suffering from catatonia. He is a man. Loneliness drives him crazy.
In 2/3 of the film, he learned to be crazy, or accepted the reality version, and began to integrate into it, intoxicated with it, making anger his reason and motivation for existence. He cannot be cured, he cannot help, he cannot save. His heart is rotten, and madness is deeply rooted and will not disappear.
At the beginning of the film, uncontrollable laughter and general shyness have become the crime craziness caused by hatred.
A wonderful speech about madness
Most of the clown’s comments talked about the relationship with the society, his abuse, and how the society led to this madness. They were basically criticisms of our society. They were absolutely right. But in the two days after I saw the film, I thought the story of the film was more complicated than that.
Later, I understood. For “Blade Killer 2049”, I found a different interpretation, just like the comment I wrote before. “Blade Killer 2049” is mostly regarded as a science fiction film by film fans and critics, and its philosophical level is far lower than its predecessor. I think it boils down to a problem. What makes us human?
Similarly, I think the clown’s question is what is crazy?
The definition of Merriam Webster dictionary is; insane:
Limits to judgment of results without remedy: unable to think in a clear or wise way
This is the key to mental health or insanity. It is to use reason and judgment to think clearly. The reasons are as follows:
A reasonable reason or motive
Still from Merriam Webster’s Dictionary, so through existence; rationality;, We can consider ourselves; rationality; or not. I know these are not technically correct definitions. Because psychological problems are more subtle. I’m not a doctor, so I’m talking about the message of the film, not about the definition in real life. I’m sure the director is also talking to non expert audiences in this field.
The clown’s behavior is improper? We can say so. The irrationality of crime. We tend to locate him; crazy;, There are also those thugs who imitate him. Although for other reasons, their behavior is not very different from his. But in this way, we can judge a person’s rationality and irrationality according to whether his behavior is also regarded as a crime. This is only part of defining someone. Crazy;
This film is full of; crazy” written words.
The angry guy threw chips at a girl in the subway to make fun of her(and winked at the spring), and then made fun of the clown because he laughed uncontrollably. So he basically didn’t understand his harmless behavior. Unreasonable behavior.
In the first act of the film, the boys steal things from the clown for no reason and beat him. They are not of the opposite sex
People rioted in the street and sentenced two policemen to death. Just because I think the government has reason to feel depressed about their poverty, killing and stealing. Are you crazy?
The clown’s mother consciously ignored the abuse he received from her boyfriend and believed that the mayor of Gotham would help her in the coming years. It doesn’t make much sense.
I can continue. quite a lot; crazy” We don’t usually call it behavior in movies. They are crazy because they do not commit crimes or act violently. They behave normally in daily life, abide by social rules and show good behavior, which seems to have nothing to do with context. We regard their crimes as a single incident of normal people. We won’t give it to people like clowns.
The clowns have different views. He talked all the time in the film. Why are you so bad? Despite difficulties, he always has a happy face. He wondered why others in society were unable or unwilling to do so. He didn’t mean crazy people directly, but on the whole, he wanted to know why some people make trouble to others for no reason. This is a trigger. You feel that as time goes on, you have the right to express your most basic, violent and bestial instinct. Just as he must endure; terrible; over the years, many people have not been criticized by the society and do not understand why they cannot do so; it’s horrible; in addition, he left the reality and was very angry with our book. But he pointed out that our attention was focused on smaller, less criminal acts. Terrible; we ask ourselves, in our daily life, where is there a rational, clear and wise way of thinking that reports at any time, in advance? This makes us immediately condemn murder and arrogance, while defending them or ignoring them. He is a criminal, but sometimes the society around him is no worse than him and no worse than him.
Why can we forgive unreasonable small acts, but can’t forgive clowns?
We like to label. Crazy, we treat those who think they are nothing like us. For those who do not believe that we will share anything, we do not consider that the seeds of this behavior sometimes exist in many of us. Just concealing, restraining, detaining and killing. The clown decided to let the seeds of his madness germinate. This is the most rational decision he made in the film. But now it’s time for us to start thinking he’s crazy. Subtle satire of wonderful movies
